What is a Countertop Dishwasher and Why Do You Need One?

A countertop dishwasher is an amazing invention that allows anyone without a built-in full-sized dishwasher to enjoy all the time-saving and energy-saving features of the dishwasher.

One of the cool features of countertop dishwashers is the glass window that exists on the front of many of them. This allows you to watch your dishes being washed. Soapy water is sprayed all over your dishes as you watch them.

A countertop dishwasher is about twice the size of an average microwave and fits on your countertop. It usually has a quick-release valve that attaches to your sink faucet. Two tubes go from the back of the countertop dishwasher to a valve system that attaches to your sink faucet.

Why Do You Need One?

One is an inlet valve that takes clean water from your sink for the dishwasher to use. The other two are an exhaust valve that drains the dirty water from the dishwasher and comes out the bottom and drains into the sink.

Very Convenient:

This is a great system and is very convenient because it takes only a second to attach to your sink faucet. The only thing that has to be done to install a countertop dishwasher is to place it on your countertop and attach a fixture to your sink by screwing it on.

Once you have done this it only takes a moment to attach or detach. This allows you to coil up the two tubes when the dishwasher is not in use. They tuck away neatly out of view so as not to clutter up your countertop.

Because the dishwasher drains into your sink you don’t have to do any plumbing or install new pipes to hook up your dishwasher.

Saves Water:

A countertop dishwasher saves a lot of water. Washing dishes by hand is much less efficient than washing dishes in an automatic countertop dishwasher.

Energy Saving:

Most dishwashers have energy-saving options that allow you to air dry your dishes instead of using the electric drying feature that many of them have. The only downside of this is the electric drying feature sterilizes in addition to drying.

Glass Window:

One of the cool features of the countertop dishwasher is the glass window that exists on the front of many of them. This allows you to watch your dishes being washed. Soapy water is sprayed all over your dishes as you watch them.

Proper Use of Dish Washing Detergent:

It is very important to always use proper dishwashing detergent in your dishwasher. Dishwasher detergent is very different from the liquid dish soap. Because of the unique nature of a dishwasher, they require a granular soap. The grit of the soap is actually what cleans your dishes. The dishwasher sprays soapy, gritty water over your dishes. It is almost like sandpaper to dishes.

If you were to use liquid dish soap you would have a mess on your hands. Liquid dish soap is very sudsy and your dishwasher may overflow with suds and cause a mess.

Final Thought

There are many countertop models to choose from. The things to look for are whether they have one or two spray arms and how much energy and water they use. Most models will do a great job.

I wasted a year washing dishes by hand because I did not know that these marvelous little contraptions existed. Once I got one, I never looked back. There is no reason to waste time, energy, and water washing dishes by hand.
